Capacity is measured per day
Dehumidifiers are usually sold by extraction capacity: 10L/day, 12L/day, 20L/day and above. A small room with light humidity does not need the same machine as a cold basement or laundry room. If the room smells musty, dries laundry slowly or shows condensation, choose more capacity rather than the smallest model.
Tank size and drainage change daily use
A large extraction number is only convenient if the water has somewhere to go. For occasional bedroom use, a tank may be fine. For a basement, utility room or laundry area, continuous drainage is worth looking for because it avoids emptying the tank every day.

Temperature matters
Compressor dehumidifiers work well in normal indoor temperatures, but they can slow down in cold basements. If the space is cool, check the operating temperature and defrost mode.
Noise and placement
A dehumidifier can be louder than expected. In a bedroom, noise matters a lot. In a basement, airflow and drainage are more important. Leave space around the unit so it can pull humid air properly.
Our quick advice
For a bathroom or small bedroom, 10L to 12L/day can be enough. For a damp basement or laundry room, 16L to 20L/day is a better starting point, with continuous drainage if possible.

Quick answers
Is a mini dehumidifier enough?
Usually only for a cupboard or very small space. For real rooms, choose a compressor model with a clear L/day rating.
Do I need continuous drainage?
It is very useful for basements, laundry rooms and long-running use.
What humidity should I target?
Around 45% to 55% relative humidity is comfortable for many homes.
