Start with the room size
An air purifier is only useful if it can move enough air for the room. A small bedroom model can be excellent near a bed, but it will feel weak in an open living room. Start from the room size, then look at CADR, which is the clean air delivery rate. The higher the CADR, the faster the unit can filter the air in a given space.
HEPA is important, but not the whole story
For dust, pollen and pet dander, a true HEPA or HEPA-grade filter is the main feature to check. A carbon layer is useful for light odors, but it does not replace ventilation. If smoke, cooking smell or strong odor is the main problem, compare the amount of activated carbon and not only the word HEPA on the box.

Noise decides whether you will use it
A purifier that is powerful but noisy often stays off. For bedrooms, check sleep mode and low-speed noise. For living rooms, a stronger purifier can run quietly at medium speed instead of screaming at maximum speed all evening.
Do not forget filter cost
Replacement filters are the hidden cost. Before buying, check availability, price and expected lifetime. A cheap purifier with expensive filters can become less attractive after the first year.
Our quick advice
For a bedroom, choose a quiet HEPA purifier with a real night mode. For allergies or pets in a living room, move up to a higher CADR model and check filter prices before you click buy.
Quick answers
Is CADR more important than room size claims?
Yes. Room size claims are often optimistic. CADR gives a better indication of how quickly the purifier can clean air.
Do air purifiers remove pet hair?
They help with pet dander and fine particles, but visible hair still needs vacuuming.
Should I leave an air purifier running all day?
Often yes, at low speed, especially during allergy season. Check noise and energy use.
