Matter promised to make smart-home devices easier to mix, but cameras remained outside the standard for years. Aqara’s Camera Hub G350 is presented as the first Matter-certified camera, bringing live view, two-way audio and alerts into compatible ecosystems.
The indoor pan-and-tilt camera is already sold in Europe for €139.99. It also functions as an Aqara Zigbee hub, Thread border router, Matter controller and bridge, making it more than a simple surveillance device.
Two lenses and 9x hybrid zoom
The main wide-angle camera records at 3840 × 2160 with a 133° diagonal field of view. A second 2560 × 1440 telephoto lens captures narrower details, and the two feeds provide up to 9x hybrid zoom.
Infrared LEDs operate at 940 nm to avoid a visible red glow. Motorised pan and tilt can follow people or pets, while the movement speed automatically slows at higher zoom levels.
Local AI and a physical privacy mode
Aqara announces on-device recognition for faces, pets, gestures and six sounds, including a baby crying, coughing and dog barking. Local processing reduces the need to upload every event to the cloud, although remote notifications and some services may still involve Aqara’s infrastructure.
When privacy mode is activated, the camera physically moves to hide its lenses. This visible state is reassuring in bedrooms and living spaces, although power and network isolation remain the strongest guarantees.
Storage can remain local
The secured microSD slot accepts cards up to 512 GB and can record continuously. Footage can then be transferred to a NAS through the SD-card workflow. Aqara also offers encrypted cloud storage through its optional HomeGuardian plan.
HomeKit Secure Video is supported, but Apple Home limits the stream to 1080p and requires iCloud+ plus an Apple home hub. For Home Assistant, Aqara currently documents streaming through RTSP rather than the complete Matter feature set.
Matter does not make every platform identical
Certification confirms compliance with the camera device type, but each ecosystem decides when and how to implement it. Aqara explicitly warns that platform-level adoption remains limited and that exposed functions can vary between SmartThings, Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and other systems.
Buyers should therefore choose the G350 for its camera quality and local features first. Matter is a useful path toward broader integration, not a guarantee that every control and recording option will appear everywhere immediately.

G350 combines unusually complete hardware with flexible storage and a strong hub function. At €139.99, the dual-lens design, local AI and microSD recording make it competitive even before Matter is considered.
Its title of first Matter-certified camera is important, but early adoption comes with fragmentation. Confirm the exact features supported by your preferred platform before replacing an existing camera ecosystem.
