Bambu Lab A2L brings large-format 3D printing below €400

Large desktop prints usually require either an expensive machine or a model divided into several sections. Bambu Lab’s A2L attacks that compromise with a 330 × 320 × 325 mm build volume and a European starting price of €379.

The open-frame printer has been available since June 2026. It is positioned above the A1 for makers producing cosplay parts, household objects, prototypes and small production runs that do not fit comfortably on a conventional 256 mm bed.

105% more volume than a conventional 256 mm machine

Bambu Lab says the A2L provides 105% more build volume than a standard 256 mm-class printer. That extra room matters more than the dimensions suggest: helmets, vases, organisers and long functional pieces can be printed in one part, avoiding seams, glue and extra finishing.

The complete machine measures 544 × 529 × 505 mm and weighs 12.8 kg. Buyers therefore need a rigid, deep work surface and additional clearance for bed movement, filament and maintenance.

Fast motion with new vibration control

The manufacturer specifies print speeds up to 500 mm/s, a closed-loop PMSM servo extrusion system and adaptive multi-point vibration compensation. Two granular dampers are integrated into the frame to reduce movement during large, fast prints.

Maximum speed is not the same as the best speed for every model. Tall parts, small details and glossy materials may still require slower profiles. Real productivity will depend on acceleration, flow rate and the chosen filament, not the headline travel speed alone.

Multicolour, pen plotting and blade cutting

A2L works with AMS and AMS Lite systems and can theoretically manage up to 19 colours with multiple units. Optional modules also turn it into a pen plotter or blade-cutting machine, broadening its appeal for craft projects.

Multicolour printing remains convenient rather than economical: colour changes consume time and purge filament. Buyers should compare the €379 base model with the €489 A2L Combo including AMS Lite according to their actual use.

An open printer for everyday materials

The 300°C nozzle and 80°C bed are primarily intended for PLA, PETG, TPU and other non-engineering filaments. The open frame makes the A2L less suitable for ABS, ASA, nylon or other materials that benefit from stable chamber temperatures.

For cosplay, decoration and large PLA prototypes, that limitation is reasonable. Anyone prioritising technical polymers should compare it with an enclosed CoreXY printer, even if the available build volume is smaller.

HomeSpecLab’s view

At €379, A2L makes a genuinely useful size increase accessible without abandoning automatic calibration and Bambu Lab’s software ecosystem. It is one of the most relevant additions to the sub-€400 category this year.

The buying decision is simple: choose A2L for large PLA and PETG objects; choose an enclosed model for engineering materials. Before ordering, also budget for the larger workspace, filament consumption and a stable table.
